Lash Extension Care Guide

Expert answers to your most common lash aftercare questions

What causes lash irritation?

Lash irritation is most commonly caused by the accumulation of oils, makeup residue, and environmental debris along the lash line. When these substances build up over time, they can create an environment where bacteria thrive, leading to discomfort, redness, and inflammation. Regular cleansing with a gentle, oil-free lash cleanser helps prevent this buildup and maintains the health of both your natural lashes and extensions.

Why do lash extensions need cleaning?

Lash extensions require regular cleaning to remove the natural oils, dead skin cells, and cosmetic products that accumulate throughout the day. Without proper cleansing, this buildup weakens the adhesive bond between your natural lashes and the extensions, causing premature shedding and reducing retention. Clean lashes also ensure optimal lash health, preventing bacterial growth that can lead to infections or irritation.

How do I maintain lash extensions?

Maintaining lash extensions begins with daily cleansing using a specialized oil-free and fragrance-free lash cleanser to gently remove impurities without compromising the adhesive. Brush your lashes daily with a clean spoolie to keep them aligned and fluffy, and avoid oil-based products near the eye area. Additionally, sleep on your back when possible and refrain from rubbing or pulling at your lashes to maximize their longevity and preserve their beautiful appearance.

What is lash buildup?

Lash buildup refers to the gradual accumulation of natural oils, makeup, skincare products, and environmental pollutants along the lash line and extension fibers. This residue creates a film that not only looks dull and clumpy but also weakens the bond of your extensions and can harbor bacteria. Consistent cleansing with a proper lash cleanser dissolves and removes this buildup, keeping your lashes fresh, clean, and healthy.

Why are my lash extensions itchy?

Itchy lash extensions are typically a sign of buildup or bacterial growth along the lash line, which can irritate the delicate skin around your eyes. This discomfort often occurs when lashes are not cleansed regularly or thoroughly enough, allowing oils and debris to accumulate. In some cases, itchiness may also indicate an allergic reaction to products or adhesive, so if the sensation persists after proper cleansing, consult your lash technician or healthcare provider.

How often should I wash lash extensions?

For optimal lash health and extension longevity, you should cleanse your lash extensions daily, ideally once in the evening to remove the day's accumulation of oils and debris. If you wear makeup, exercise frequently, or have oily skin, consider cleansing twice daily to maintain freshness and prevent buildup. Consistent daily cleansing is the single most important step in your lash aftercare routine, ensuring both the beauty and health of your extensions.

About the Founder

Meet Ashley

For Ashley, beauty has always been about more than how you look, it’s about how you feel.

Growing up in the small town of Grand Valley, Ontario, Ashley dreamed of building something of her own. Her path wasn’t always straightforward, but the challenges she faced taught her the value of confidence, resilience, and continuing to believe in yourself even when the next step isn’t completely clear.

That mindset eventually led her into the beauty industry, where she discovered a passion for helping women feel confident, cared for, and comfortable in their own skin.

Over the next four years, Ashley turned that passion into The Fallen Petal, a thriving lash studio built around exceptional service, genuine relationships, and an elevated client experience.

Working closely with lash clients also showed her something else: beautiful extensions are an investment, but proper aftercare is often overlooked.

That realization became the foundation for House of L’Ashley.

Ashley set out to create a lash cleanser that felt as elevated as the lashes it was designed to care for — effective, gentle on sensitive eyes, simple to use, and beautiful enough to become part of your everyday routine.

The result is lash care designed to feel less like another step in your beauty routine and more like a ritual.

House of L’Ashley is Ashley’s next chapter — built around the belief that caring for your beauty should feel effortless, intentional, and luxurious.
